Banana Circles has been into the banana distribution value chain since 2016, our post-harvest management team has been trained and certified at the National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB). We have established protocols for each banana variety from harvesting to ripening and reducing post-harvest loss has been our major focus.
We package and distribute bananas to other businesses for both domestic and export markets. We also have field experts that have been working on cultivation to harvest of the fresh produce for over three decades.
Our Indigenous Bananas
Nendran AAB / Ethapazham
Cultivation time of 12 months, the most versatile banana variety, the green variety is made into banana chips, fried as fritters (unripe and ripe), boiled with ghee and jaggery as a traditional sweet food. Nendran has the highest percentage of Resistant Starch type II in its green/unripe form and is a natural prebiotic food.
Yelakki AB / Ney Poovan / Elaichi / Rasakadali
Cultivation time of 12-13 months, the highest commercially grown and distributed banana in India after the G9 Cavendish, consumed as a dessert variety.
Red Banana AAA / Sevvazhai
Cultivation time of 16-17 months, the high levels of carotenoids and antioxidants make it a very nutritious variety.
Robusta AAA / Morris
Cultivation time of 12 months, cultivated less in the recent past due to its short shelf life and is being replaced by the G9 Cavendish, a dessert variety, which uniquely remains green in colour post ripening.
Karpooravalli ABB
Cultivation time of 15-16 months, one of the sweetest bananas which has a unique ash colour to its yellow banana shade. Highly cultivated and consumed dessert variety.
Peyan AAB / Nadu
Cultivation time of 12 months, indigenous to Southern Tamil Nadu. A cooking and dessert variety, the pulp is very soft and the ripe bananas are given to babies.
Matti AA
Cultivation time of 14-15 months, one of the most unique varieties cultivated, indigenous to Kanyakumari and Nagercoil. A GI tag has been sought for this variety which also has medicinal properties.
Padathi AAB
Cultivation time of 12 months, unique to the region, mostly consumed as a cooking variety for various dishes; the variety has a traditional and religious significance.
Rasthali AAB
Cultivation time of 12-13 months, a dessert variety.
